Opal is the national gemstone of Australia. Approximately 96% of the worlds opals come from Australia.
Black Opal is considered to rarest and most beautiful of all opals and is found in New South Wales in an area known as Lightning Ridge.
Boulder opal is an interesting stone, usually found on the host rock and is generally mined in Queensland.
The white opal is found predominantly in South Australia in an area known as Coober Pedy.
Opals can be sold as solid, doublets and triplets.
